Lemonade Base
  • 1 1/2 cups Fresh lemon juice About 8-10 lemons
  • 1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar White sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups Water For syrup
  • 5 cups Cold water For mixing
  • 2 cups Ice Optional

Method
 

  1. Wash and roll the lemons on the countertop to help release more juice.
  2. Cut the lemons in half and squeeze enough juice to yield 1½ cups of fresh lemon juice.
  3. Strain the juice through a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds and excess pulp if desired.
  4. In a saucepan, combine 1½ cups sugar and 1½ cups water.
  5. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Do not boil excessively.
  6. Remove from heat and allow the simple syrup to cool for about 10 minutes.
  7. Pour the fresh lemon juice into a large pitcher.
  8. Add the cooled simple syrup.
  9. Pour in 5 cups of cold water and stir thoroughly.
  10. Taste and adjust the sweetness by adding more water if preferred.
  11. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour for the best flavor.
  12. Fill serving glasses with ice.
  13. Pour the chilled lemonade over the ice.
  14. Garnish with lemon slices and fresh mint.
